Celebrating Earth Day 2021: How Kurita Restores our Earth

Each year in April, we come together on Earth Day to demonstrate our support and raise awareness for environmental protection. Conservation topics center around the 2021 Earth Day theme, “Restore Our Earth”. Further explained by earthday.org, this theme promotes the belief that a “healthy Earth [is essential] to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — [we must restore our earth not just because we care about the natural world but because] it is a necessity.”

Celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, Earth Day continues to have a significant impact attracting an estimated one billion people — making it the largest secular observance day in the world. Given the ongoing COVID-19 global pandemic, it is not a typical year with many Earth Day activities going digital or being adapted to meet heightened safety and social distancing requirements. At Kurita America, we are passionate about creating harmony between man, nature and technology. We’ve made it our mission to help customers around the world solve their most challenging water, energy and compliance problems — creating exceptional value for their business while improving the way water and natural resources are used. We conduct business every day with sustainability as a core company value and practice. Learn how we help to create a better world through our environmentally friendly, integrated water solutions as well as our sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Kurita America is a part of a larger company culture of environmental stewardship. Within the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) detailing environmental and humanitarian calls to action. Kurita Water Industries Ltd. (Kurita) has incorporated many of these SDGs into its corporate activities and management strategies, where it can help solve issues related to water resources, realize sustainable energy use  and reduce waste.

The social issues facing the world today include areas where Kurita’s accumulated technologies and expertise can make a difference, such as the lack of freshwater, climate change and water pollution. In March of 1997, Kurita founded the Kurita Water and Environment Foundation (KWEF) to support the development of finding new, improved solutions to water conservation and environmental protection. To this day, Kurita invests in the scientific study of sustainable development and continues to share knowledge and solutions with the world to ensure a brighter future, see here for details.

Kurita is also actively engaged in, and a co-founding member of, the Water Resilience Coalition (WRC), whose mission is to “preserve the world’s freshwater resources through collective action in water-stressed basins [with] ambitious, quantifiable commitments.” Through a collective pledge, the Coalition aims to positively impact 100 water basins around the world by 2030 in an effort to protect and conserve water, a finite resource.

In honor of Earth Day, we encourage you to find ways you can help protect the Earth! Whether you are advocating for better environmental legislation, participating in local clean up or are a supporter of recycling and water conservation - we all need to do our part for the Earth that has given us so much.
